  • The chair was filled with horsehair and cotton, the elegant wing shape of the arms was possible due to the density of it.
    There were two layers of upholstery in the chair, one being a cotton brocade

  • The horsehair inside the chair dried out the frame to the point that the wood was disintegrating.
    After removing the horsehair, I added moisture into the wood and oiled it.
    To replace the missing sections, I used a two part epoxy wood putty to reform the rails.
    After staining the epoxy to match and re-doweling a broken joint, I added a new coat of polyurethane and started on the upholstery

  • Recreating the shape of the chair with foam was difficult, but with a lot of strategically placed batting and filling, it was completed.
    I covered 14 buttons and drafted out their placement, and hand stitched the side panels to create the tight arch over the arm of the chair.
